TOPIC

astronomy and astrology

Sky has always fascinated the human beings and it has always had a significant impact on our worldview. Early cultures identified celestial objects with the gods and took their movements across the sky as prophecies of what was to come. Throughout history people have also looked to the stars to decide when to plant crops, to navigate oceans, and to know where we came from and how we got here. Today two different disciplines are interested in the study of stars and planets, despite being based on distinct assumptions: from one side astronomy and from the other side astrology. What are the differences between them? What do they have, instead, in common? What is a star for both astronomy and astrology? Is it possible to imagine a kind of interaction between astrologers and astronomers? What do they think about each other?

Don’t miss the debate between the astrophysicist Prof. Christoffel Waelkens and the astrologer Michaël Mandl at the upcoming Brussels Science Apéro! Let’s peer together into heaven and have your questions and curiosities answered!
